Road closure in Durban for Madiba Memorial Service

Durbanites hoping to attend the City's memorial tribute at Moses Mabhida Stadium are urged to get in early and be aware of the road closures around the stadium.

THE eThekwini municipality will have temporary road closures and restrictions in the city as thousands are expected to gather for the Municipality’s tribute to former President Nelson Mandela at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday, 13 December.

In preparation for the event the city will temporarily close and or restrict traffic at a number of roads, around the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The city is expecting an excess of 80 000 people to attend the memorial service and is urging mourners to get to the venue early as event organisers will be obligated to close the venue when capacity is reached for safety and security reasons.

“Motorists are urged to bear the possible closures in mind when travelling to and from the stadium area,” said municipal spokesperson Thabo Mofokeng.

A night vigil will be held at the Stadium’s People’s Park on Saturday, 14 December and the funeral service will be screened at the Park on Sunday.

The following roads will be temporarily closed and or restricted to traffic for the stadium event between 5am and 7pm on Friday, 13 December:

2. Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) Road from Twin Clothing to entrance to Natal Mounted Rifles/Durban Country Club (allowing access to Twin Clothing off Umgeni Road and NMR/DCC off M4 only).
