Meet Glenwood’s new director of rugby
Rugby player takes the reigns as director of rugby at Glenwood High School.
RUGBY player and coach, Shawn van Rensburg, has taken over the reigns as director of rugby at Glenwood High School from Sean Erasmus.
Shawn was the head of rugby at Voortrekker High School in Pietermaritzburg from 2011 to 2013.
During this period he was also the sports coordinator at Voortrekker.
Shawn used to be a professional rugby player and achieved a lot over a 10 year period.
He currently plays on invitation for Springbok Legends/SA Rhinos League. In 2010 he played in the USA Eagles Classics (The Bermuda Classic). In 2007 he was captain of the Natal Duikers and the SA Rhinos Rugby League Invitation team.
In 2006 he played for the Celtic Crusaders, a rugby league in Wales and was selected for the Welsh rugby league squad.
In 2005 and 2006 he played in Toulon (Top 14 in France) and the Heineken Cup and in 2005 he played for the Pumas in Witbank.
He was selected for the Welsh Squad in 2003 and in 2003 to 2004 he played for the Gwent Dragons making 23 caps and the Heineken Cup.
From 2000 to 2003 he played for Bridgend RFC 70+ caps and the Heineken Cup and in 1999 to 2000 he played for Neath RFC 50+caps and in the Heineken Cup.
He was selected for the Welsh Squad in 1999 to 2000 and the Sharks squad/Natal Wildebeest in 1999.
He played on the Sharks squad from 1997 to 1998 and played Natal B and Wildebeest.
In 1996 he played for Eastern Province, he was the Natal U21 captain and player of the year in 1995 and trained with the Natal senior squad.
In 1994 he played in the Natal U21 squad and captained the Natal U20 team.
He was Werda High School 1st team captain from 1991 to 1993 and was the first pupil in Andries Pretorius to be selected for Craven week (Natal) in 1987.
He also has many additional playing achievements.
