Residents shocked by municipality’s road blunder

Residents of Musgrave are up in arms after receiving notices that their road would be resurfaced just a month after the installation of speed humps.

RESIDENTS living in Musgrave are outraged by the road rehabilitation which started this week, just over a month after the long awaited installation of speed humps on the dangerous Montpelier Road.

A resident of the street, who wished to be known only as Greg, told Berea Mail he was shocked by the blatant miscommunication of municipal departments.

“They came through about four weeks ago to construct and paint these speed humps which were really needed because of the hazardous speeding on our road down to Argyle and now they are pulling it all up to resurface!

“How much do these speed humps cost?” the angry resident asked fuming because it was a waste of time and taxpayers money.

Another resident, Abdul Laher, said he was surprised to see a notice about the rehabilitation of the road so soon after the speed humps were installed.

“We got the notice on the 24 April but nothing happened until this week, when we see the road rehabilitation trucks up and down. How long will this take is what I wonder and whether they will reinstall the speed humps,” Laher added.

Last month, the Berea Mail ran a story about the speed humps finally being installed after Councillor Martin Meyer urged the municipality to prioritise the speed humps which were approved in December, after a child was almost knocked over outside a nursery school on the busy road.

Meyer said he was also surprised to hear about the resurfacing and had spoken to the Roads Department about the mix up which he hopes will be sorted out quite soon, with the speed humps reinstalled.
