Environmental seminar sows seeds of unity

The community is encouraged to join in on a conversation on gratitude towards nature.

AN interfaith seminar entitled Seeds of Unity, takes place at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard College Campus Innovation Center, Gate 9, Rick Turner Road, on Sunday 25 May at 9.30am.

According to Divesh Mahararj, reverence for nature is a common thread in all of the world’s major religious followings and nature has always been viewed as divine and a manifestation of the Absolute. In order to develop appreciation and understanding of the culturally diverse perspectives on this universal concept of “Divinity in Nature”, the Vaishnava Research Forum will host the seminar, with the objective to stimulate dialogue between inter-religious groups in order to share ideas with a view of developing a mood of gratitude towards nature.

Practical ideas presented at the seminar can also be implemented on the ground in various environmental educational activities relating to children.

Admission is free and a vegetarian lunch and refreshments will be provided. A total of eight different religious followings will be represented at the seminar including Sukyo Mahikari, Bahai and African Traditional Religion. The event is also supported by the eThekwini Municipality as it is in keeping with city’s integrated development plan of social cohesion and inter-religious unity.
