Student nominated as top Microsoft partner

A Durban University of Technology student has been nominated as the South African Microsoft Student Partner of the Year.

A THIRD year Durban University of Technology student has been nominated as the South African Microsoft Student Partner of the Year (MSP) for 2013.

Pivendren Naik, an engineering computer systems student, together with other 29 international MSPs will attend the MSP Summit in Redmond, Seattle, from 29 July until 2 August. Naik was nominated out of 7000 international MSPs. The top 30 international MSPs will attend the Microsoft Student Partner summit and have the opportunity to network and engage with the Microsoft team. In addition, they will be given training and an insight into the Microsoft Roadmap for the upcoming year.

The MSP programme is a worldwide educational programme that sponsors students studying technology. It enhances the students’ employability by providing them with training skills that are not usually taught in academia. The programme is available to all students in colleges and universities across the world. If a student is accepted, the student partner is required to further share their knowledge and skills with the academic community.

Naik, who says he wants to build “cool” things and absolutely loves electronics and programming, cannot contain his excitement.

“Being an MSP for DUT for the past two years is a huge accolade and now to be awarded MSP of the year and then being chosen to be one of the thirty students to represent some 7000 MSPs worldwide at the MSP summit, I have no idea how to comprehend all of this. I still cannot believe it and to think that I was not even competing but was doing what I love cannot express how happy I am,” said Naik.

Naik hopes to complete his Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology degrees in engineering and gain as much experience from various companies. He also hopes to try out some research in the same field. He is currently interning at RogueCode.
