Vagrant shot on Moore Road
A clash between a businessman and a vagrant ends in gunfire.

A man believed to be a vagrant was allegedly shot by a local business owner on Che Guevara (Moore) Road on Friday morning.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the man was shot after an altercation with the business owner, who had asked him to move away from his business premises.
Reports also indicate the man may have picked up a brick to attack the businessman who then allegedly fired a shot, grazing the man’s leg.
Police have reported that third parties became involved who attacked the businessman and damaged his car. They are investigating a case of attempted murder.
The incident occurs amid a growing concern among residents and local business owners in the area about the rising numbers of the homeless, street beggars and prostitutes in the area.
Earlier this month Berea Mail spoke to a Glenwood woman who said she was forced out of her home and business due to a rise in crime, for which she blamed ‘whoonga kids’ and beggars.
Community groups such as Save Our Berea (SOB) have in the past called on city officials to act on what they see as serious problem in the area.
The area also recently became hazardous for the homeless, some of whom have been the victims of attacks from vigilante mobs.
