New members for CPF

New CPF exec members aim to work together to make the Umbilo CPF efficient and effective.

TWO new members have been elected to the executive committee of the Umbilo Community Policing Forum.

Marcel Whatley has been elected as the deputy chairperson, and Nicky Scott is the new secretary.

Umbilo CPF chairperson, Ben Madokwe, said the new members would bring new energy and ideas to the table.

“Marcel and Nicky come with new ideas to do things to make the CPF more efficient and more effective. The positions have been vacant for the past six months and I feel they are the right people to work with the committee to take the CPF forward and help fight crime in the area,” he said.

Marcel said he was pleased to be part of the CPF and aimed to help get rid of whoonga addicts, prostitutes and crime in the area.

“I want to have a safe community where people can walk home at night without looking over their shoulders and where people can sleep through the night without worrying. I hope for a quiet, safe neighbourhood and urge the community to join hands with the CPF, speak to us, help us, and stand together to fight crime. We need to take our community back,” he said.

Marcel said he had an open door policy and encouraged the community to contact him if they had any issues.

Nicky said she felt it was vitally important for the community to attend meetings and come forward with issues.

“Residents need to get involved in fighting crime. As this committee is newly elected and is only now finding its feet, we urge the community to realise we are getting the CPF going, but this is not going to happen overnight. We will also be uplifting the community, as well as fighting crime, so people are urged to get involved. We can do so much and can be proud of where we live, and take ownership and responsibility for our area,” she said.

The next step will be getting the Umbilo CPF website up and running and to improve the Facebook page.

The CPF meet monthly and residents are encouraged to attend.
