Thief caught breaking into car

A criminal was caught red handed as he broke the window of a Morningside car and climbed inside.

A LOCAL thief got more than he bargained for when the community and police stopped him in his tracks after breaking into a car in Morningside last Thursday night.

According to Berea police communications officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo, a man who lives on Montpelier Road returned to his car when he noticed several people including police at his vehicle.

“The man was informed that a man had broke into his vehicle. The suspect broke the back rear window and had climbed into the vehicle when he was apprehended by several people and the Berea SAPS,” said Naidoo

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to Berea Police Station.

Computer and hair product thief arrested

A 35-year-old man was arrested by Berea police on Friday afternoon, 25 July following an week-long investigation into a reported theft..

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, police received information that a theft had occurred on the 18 July, where a computer monitor, tower and hair products valued at R30 000 was taken from Cowey Road. “We were informed that the suspect was known and after some investigation he was apprehended and detained at SAPS Berea for theft,” said Naidoo.

Berea police once again advise the community to be aware of potential crime situations to minimise their chance of being caught off-guard.

“Always try to walk in lit up areas when walking along the road alone and always be aware of your surroundings,” said Lieutenant PN Naidoo.

Naidoo also advised motorists not to leave valuables visible in parked vehicles and not to park vehicles on the road if there was available parking in a complex.

Naidoo also urged resdients to report suspicious strangers in the area to the polic. He believes it is important to network socially with neighbours. “Look after one another, exchange views about the occurrences around you, for example strangers and unknown vehicles coming into the area as these could be criminals,” he added.
