Berea police launch Women’s month programme

Berea SAPS women with acting station comander Lt Col DV Pillay launched the Berea SAPS Women's Network for Women's Day.

BEREA SAPS women made their mark ahead of Women's Day on Friday morning, 8 August at the John Zikhali and Essenwood intersection to launch the Berea SAPS Women's Network.

The group of women were led by Captain Bonisiwe Khanyile, Head of Social Crime Prevention at the station and Lieutenant Colonel DV Pillay who is currently acting as Station Commander at Berea SAPS while Colonel Kweyama is away.

“We launched by creating visibility at the intersection and our message was to reiterate that people must stop giving to vagrants at robots.”

The female staff members distributed crime prevention flyers at the intersection.

Khanyile said the women from Berea SAPS would be working outside of the station every Friday as part of the project throughout Women's month. “We plan to go to elderly homes in the area for visits where we will be making senior citizens aware of their rights and giving them crime tips,” explained Khanyile.

Pillay gave the diverse community orientated plan, which was based on the needs of the community the thumbs up. “This is a national SAPS directive and they are really looking into what is needed. Vagrancy is becoming an issue in our area and we ha elderly abuse always topical. said
