Durban Central Tactical Response Team (TRT) arrested a 29-year-old suspect for possession of car breaking implements on Saturday 9 August.
It is alleged members of the unit received a complaint of an attempted carjacking along Problem Mkhize (Cowey) Road. When they arrived they saw a grey VW Polo and also noticed a red Toyota Tazz with three occupants one of whom was holding a firearm in his hand.
The police tried to stop the vehicle but it sped off. They gave chase and later arrested the driver. The two other occupants fled the scene of foot. When he was searched, the driver was found in possession of car breaking implements and was charged.
The Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the Durban TRT members for their swift response that led to the arrest of the suspect.
“Our members will work tirelessly around the clock to trace the other suspects who are still at large,” she said.
