World youth chess champs for Durban
The World Youth Chess Championships comes to Africa and Durban for the first time.

FOR the first time in history, the 2014 World Youth Chess Championships will be staged on the African Continent at the Durban International Convention Centre between 19 and 29 September.
The tournament has been hosted all over the world in countries the likes of Spain, Brazil, Turkey, Germany, Greece and most recently in the UAE in 2013. The WYCC will attract more than 1800 participants from more than 90 countries.
The tournament itself is played by age groups under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18, with 12 world champions crowned every year. The qualification process begins at the national level in all competing countries.
