Women’s Race road closures

Take note of the road closures ahead of the Spar Women's Race this weekend.

THE annual running of the SPAR Women’s 10/5km race will take place this Sunday, 24 August and a number of roads will be affected on the morning of the race.

The area around the Saharah Kingsmead and the beachfront will be filled with the colourful field of runners making their way around the picturesque SPAR route.

The following roads that will be closed from early on Sunday morning for the duration of the race till noon.

Road Closures:

From 02:00

Intersection of Snell Parade / Athlone Drive

Intersection of Stiebel Place / Lagoon Drive / Blue Lagoon Tunnel

Intersection of Snell Parade / Battery Beach

Intersection of Stiebel Place / Athlone Drive (East & West)

Intersection of Masabalala Yengwa Avenue South Bound from Argyle Road to KE Masinga

Intersection of Somtseu Road / Masabalala Yengwa Avenue

Intersection of Access Roads around Sahara Stadium

From 03:00

Intersection of Battery Beach / Suncoast Main Entrance traffic circle (heading north)

Intersection of Battery Beach / Masabalala Yengwa Avenue

Intersection of Isaiah Ntshangase / Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (south bound)

From 04:00

Intersection of Masabalala Yengwa Avenue North bound lane closure from KE Masinga to Argyle. (1 lane of traffic to remain open for access to the station and to Argyle Road)

Intersection of Arglye Road on ramp to Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (north bound)

All main roads will be to re-opened by 11 am. Road access to the Sahara Stadium will remain closed until noon.

In order to ease traffic congestion the following parking is recommended on the race day:

The International Convention Centre (ICC) (undercover) – recommended access on Bram Fischer Road. (400 metres)

Centrum Parking (opposite the Durban Exhibition Centre) (open) – recommended access via Samora Machel Street. (350 metres)

The Workshop (undercover and open) – recommended access from Samora Machel Street. (620 metres)

SunCoast recommended access from Sandile Thusi (Argyle Road) then left into Sylvester Ntuli (Brickhill Road extension) (1.8 km)

Each of these parking areas has their own fee structure and are not contracted to the event.

There is free parking along the beachfront 900 metres from the start.
