Woman can’t remember rape ordeal

An arrest is imminent in a case of rape in Umbilo last week.

UMBILO police are investigating a case of rape after a young woman woke up in the bush and realised she had been raped but cannot recall the sequence of events.

According to Sgt Beverly Manqele of Umbilo SAPS, on 7 September, A 24-year-old woman was searching for a place to rent and responded to an online advert.

She contacted the person who said he had accommodation available. She took a taxi to 133 Che Guevara Road where she met the man who, she recalled, had a foreign accent.

“The man offered her some snacks, and she took a Danone that was sealed and drank it. She woke up in the bush in the morning on 8 September and realised she had been raped, however she does not remember much about what happened to her.”

Manqele said police had opened a case of rape and an arrest is imminent.

Sgt Manqele urged the community to be aware of this modus operandi, and to stay safe.
