Street Carnival road closures
Roads surrounding the Stella Sports Club in Glenwood will be temporarily closed off on 11 October for the Redd’s Street Carnival.
THE Redd’s Street Carnival will descend on Durban’s Glenwood area with a vivid display of South African inspired floats, masks and over-the-top outfits on 11 October.
The 1.5km route comprised of sections of the roads surrounding Stella Sports Club, Helen Joseph, Clark, Brand and Bulwer, will be temporarily closed off for 90 minutes from 5pm to 6.30pm, as the Street Carnival procession takes place and will re-open shortly after the parade passes through.
The procession, which will start and end at the Stella Sports Club, will take participants on a journey filled with excitement, freedom and spontaneity, featuring an incredible spectacle of the city’s different cultures and communities including representatives from Wentworth, Chatsworth, Umlazi, KwaMashu, Phoenix, New Germany and many more from within eThekwini.
The carnival procession will culminate in a Street Carnival After Party at the Sports Club from 6pm until midnight, which will feature an explosive mix of South Africa’s leading artists, fused with a surprise line-up of eclectic acts, including performances from event MC and Beat Boxer Jean Kitenge, DJ Sgqemeza, The Arrows, DJ Shimza, Dreamteam, Ricky Rick and Major League.
Tickets to the after party, which is only open to adults over 18 years of age, will be sold through Computicket at R50 each, with a percentage of net ticket sale proceeds being donated to the City of Durban’s approved arts and culture organisations.
