Tyre thieves caught red handed

BEREA's men in blue were arrested two men for theft last week.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, a man in Montpelier Road had left a spare tyre in his yard which went missing. Whilst inquiring with his neighbours about the tyre he saw police arrive at his home with the tyre.

“The officers found two suspicious men in possession of the tyre a short distance away and after questioning them, the suspects showed officers where they took it from,” he explained.

The suspects were detained after the complainant identified his tyre.

Be crime aware

Car related theft is a recurring crime and Berea police want to advise motorists to be extra vigilant about securing their vehicles, especially as the festive season is fast approaching.

“Use parking inside complexes if possible and if parking on the road, park in well lit areas and do not leave valuables in vehicles,” said Lt Naidoo.

When travelling and you arrive home, Naidoo advised motorists to immediately take luggage out the vehicle.

“Make sure the vehicle is physically locked when parking your vehicle, do not just press remote and walk away.

Always be aware of your surroundings you could be watched and when the opportunity arises you could become a victim,” he added.
