Music lovers enjoy laidback Sunday Dock Sessions

Don't miss live music and entertainment at Bud's BayShak in Maydon Wharf.

PATRONS at Bud's BayShak Roadside Tavern were treated to live music on Sunday 26 October, with the launch of the new Dock Sessions.

Restaurateur Bill Budd and musician Stuart Mey recently collaborated on the relaunch of Buds BayShak as a live music venue. Bill, who also owns the Prawn Shak in Amatikulu and the Marula Shak in Southern Mozambique, has become renowned for ‘dining done differently’. In order to align the dockside diner with this philosophy, he enlisted the help of Stuart, who will be responsible for coordinating and showcasing quality local music. Together, the experienced duo aims to offer a quirky and unpretentious experience to diners seeking something a little out of the ordinary.

The Dock Sessions, which are hosted every Sunday, combine a four-course long lazy lunch with music from some first-rate local bands. The format complements the BayShak’s laidback atmosphere and encourages customers to savour the last few breaths of the weekend.

On Wednesdays from about 6.30pm, Bud’s invites diners to watch live bands rehearse and fine-tune their repertoires. The evenings are an opportunity to get up close and personal and learn how a band puts together a gig. No cover charge, and the bar and kitchen are open for eats and drinks.

Fridays will serve as a chance for singles or a bunch of mates to mingle with like-minded people. Customers can socialise with new and old friends alike, and enjoy live music that invokes fond memories of the good old days.

Television shows like Strictly Come Dancing have sparked a renewed interest in dancing, but there is a desperate shortage of dinner-dance venues in Durban. Except when it has been booked for corporate functions, Buds will host Dinner Dance evenings on Saturdays. Diners are invited to bring their dancing shoes and enjoy four-course dinner, with options, at R180 a head, band included.
