Guard apprehends intruder

An ADT security officer apprehended a would-be thief in Montpelier Road.

AN unsuspecting thief was apprehended by an ADT security guard at a property in Morningside on Saturday, 11 October.

At around 12.15pm, a Montpelier Road resident noticed the man in his garden and contacted the ADT security monitoring centre to request armed response.

Armed response officer Gcina Bhengu was dispatched and upon arrival conducted a thorough inspection of the property. He discovered the garage door had been broken but that no entry had been gained.

Bhengu patrolled the area and soon spotted a man matching the description given by the homeowner, walking along Montpelier Road. The man was immediately apprehended and handed over for arrest to Berea SAPS.

Martin Kriel, managing director of ADT Security east coast region said: “Should you come across a suspect on your property, immediately contact your security service provider or the SAPS. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous.”
