PARENTS of murdered Kurtlee Pillay walked out of the Durban Magistrates court with some relief after hearing the three men accused of killing their son on 4 November will be held at Westville Prison.
Presiding magistrate Vanitha Armu had initially set Wednesday, 26 November as an opportunity for the three to make bail applications but Anand Nepaul, attorney for Blaine Raman requested she have the matter adjourned until 11 December.
Armu asked what the grounds for the adjournment was, whether Raman had a history of mental illness and if he was abandoning his bail request.
Nepal responded that he was not abandoning bail, but the district surgeon had examined his client and he had sent the report to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution but to date had not received any response.
“This is not for a bail application date because bail would depend substantially on a response to the letter,” he said.
Dinesh Nana and Bilal Tayob’s lawyers did not object to the request. Magistrate Armu agreed to the request saying, “Raman, Nana and Tayob be remanded into custody until 11 December at Westville Prison.”
Benjamin Pillay, father of Kurtlee told Berea Mail as he walked out of his court with his wife, Tracy, that he was glad the three were finally going into prison.
