Suspected bike thief nabbed

An alert domestic worker lead to the arrest of a bike thief in Musgrave.

A MID-AFTERNOON chase ended in an arrest for an alleged bicycle thief who was too slow to escape detection by a Blue Security armed reaction officer.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said an alert domestic worker had spotted the alleged thief breaking into a neighbour’s garage in Windmill Road and called for help.

“A domestic worker alerted us to a burglary in progress at a neighbour’s property. When our officer arrived on the scene the suspect, who was still in the garage, grabbed a bicycle and fled over the wall into a neighbour’s property in Vause Road,” he said.

The Blue security officer gave chase, cornered the suspect who then dropped the bicycle and jumped back over the wall.

“Our officer picked up the bicycle and went back to the burgled house where he advised the resident, who was unaware of the incident, that the suspect was still hiding on the property. Our officer checked the property and found the suspect. He was arrested and handed over to the Berea SAPS at the scene,” he said.

He said Blue commends the domestic worker for looking out for her neighbours and the officer for persisting and ensuring that the suspect was brought to book and the bicycle returned to its owner.
