THREE armed robbers driving a silver grey Toyota with no registration plates, held up a security guard at a business premises in Buro Crescent in Mayville on Friday at 5am.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the robbers derailed the front gate and then cut open a security gate lock and forced open the door of the property. They fled with a printer, a modem and petty cash. The Mayville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
In Greyville a customer was robbed after drawing cash at an ATM in Clarence Road just after 6am in the morning on Friday.
Jackson urged business owners and residents to be vigilant as it appeared that criminal gangs were actively seeking early morning opportunities to target properties in the area.
“Several housebreakings were reported over the past week and the common denominator was that each of these crimes was committed between 5am and 9am in the morning,” he said.
Housebreaking incidents were reported in Windermere Road, Earl Haig Road, Brickfield Road and Millar Road.
“We urge residents and business owners to install cost effective ‘gate-crashing kits’ to their driveway gates for an early warning system should criminals tamper with the gate. We also advise business owners to limit the amount of cash held on their premises and to install CCTV cameras which act as a deterrent that can help the police and security companies to identify suspects,” he said.
