Take note of security tips

Residents are urged to be safety conscious when preparing to go on holiday.

TAKE note of security tips when going on holiday.

Inform your neighbours and the neighbourhood watch, cancel your newspaper deliveries or ask a neighbour to collect them and other post from your post box.

Ask neighbours to look after the garden and put refuse bags outside your home on collection days.

Secure all windows, fanlights and doors, including outbuildings, arrange for lights to be switched on in the house at night, but make sure that outside lights are not left burning during the day.

Lock garden implements away so that they won’t be stolen or used as break-in tools and put all valuables and firearms in a safe.

Disconnect electrical appliances or switch off at the mains, clear fridges and deep freezers of food, or leave power on and check all taps are turned off.

If you are leaving your pets at home make sure that a reliable person is responsible for looking after them, and that barking dogs will not be a nuisance to neighbours.

Inform your security company that you will be away, and don’t discuss your holiday until you return.
