AKA and Tibz murder trial set to begin at Durban High Court

After years of postponements, the trial of seven men accused of orchestrating the 2023 killings is set to get underway this week.

THREE years since the double murder of South African rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and chef Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, the trial against the seven men accused of orchestrating the shooting on Florida Road in February 2023 is set to get underway at the Durban High Court on Monday, October 5.

After several delays, including last minute defecence counsel changes, the first session has been set down to last until November 6.

Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni,  Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande, Siyabonga Gezani Ndimande and Malusi Dave Ndimande will line up in the dock facing a string of charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, multiple counts of attempted murder, and firearm- and ammunition-related offences.

Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed outside a restaurant on Florida Road on February 10, 2023. Since then, the matter has been before court several times with a number of postponements and bail applications. KZN NPA regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said pre-trial was concluded in August with the State confirming that they are ready to prosecute the case.

The trial of the seven double murder accused is expected to be heard over two sessions. Ramkisson-Kara the date for the second session has yet to be confirmed.

“Additional trial dates beyond November 6 will be discussed between the State and the defence,” she added.
