Mayville police ensure safety at schools

Mayville SAPS ensured safety at schools one their first day back by visiting schools as part of their Safer Schools project.

MAYVILLE SAPS members visited schools in the area as part of the Safer Schools project last week.

According to Warrant Officer Patrick Zithulele Ngwane, communications officer at Mayville, members sensitised teachers and pupils to public safety and also conducted patrols around schools.

“Principals were advised not to keep large amounts of cash on the school premises. They were also warned to advise parents about the importance of making bank deposits instead of carrying large amounts of money.”

The project took place on the first day of school, Wednesday, January 21. SAPS Mayville Warrant Officers PZ Ngwane, DS Naidoo and HT Sishi, together with Sergeant BP Sikhumba and intern GM Dumisa, were part of a team that conducted school visits and patrols, ensuring safety at all schools in the Mayville area.

These visits were done to ensure that the opening of schools takes place without any incidents. This initiative by SAPS Mayville was welcomed by school principals and community members.
