Cellphone thief caught
A Musgrave man was lucky to have his phone recovered after being pick-pocketed last Wednesday.
According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, the man was on Currie Road when he assisted a man in his thirties. “After a while the man realised that his cell phone, an iPhone 5 valued at R10 000, was missing. He contacted the police who assisted him in tracking the phone and arresting the same person he assisted earlier that day,” explained Naidoo.
The man was detained at Berea SAPS on charges of theft.
Copper thief arrested
An alert Berea man noticed someone cutting copper pipes from a home opposite his flat in Youngs Avenue, Berea on Saturday morning, 14 February.
Lieutenant PN Naidoo said the man shouted and the suspect fled. “He phoned the police, and they responded and were able to arrest the suspect who was detained at Berea SAPS for theft,” said Naidoo.
Be crime aware
Lieutenant PN Naidoo said recent reports show that people are still not physically checking whether their vehicle is locked, and cases of remote jamming are continuing.
“People are still leaving valuables exposed in vehicles and they are being stolen. Please park vehicles in well-lit areas and not under trees where it is easy to break in,” he advised.
Naidoo said the public must always be alert: watch if someone is following you or whether suspicious motor vehicles are close by.
“Also safe guard your property: do not leave valuables in trolleys while shopping or cell phones lying on restaurant tables unattended,” he concluded.
