Police find stolen car before reported

Berea police patrolling along Tenth Avenue, Morningside found a stolen bakkie before the owner knew it was missing.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, the members noticed a bakkie parked on the side of the road with the ignition on and the dashboard broken. “They called radio control to get ownership details, and the vehicle came up as not stolen. Constables ZP Shabala and ND Ngcobo made enquiries in the area and the owner was found, but he did not even know that his vehicle was stolen,” said Naidoo.

The owner of the vehicle had parked it at the corner of Gordon and Madeline Roads. A case of theft of a motor vehicle was registered and the car was taken to the pound after fingerprints were lifted.

He was charged and detained at Berea SAPS for being in possession of suspected stolen property,” said Naidoo.

Later that night another suspicious man was stopped and searched by the members. “A gold chain was found on him and the suspect could not give a reasonable explanation for being in possession of the item.
