Knitters need more wool
Residents of Tafta are appealing for donations of wool so they can knit for the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela campaign.
THE residents of Tafta On Ridge, John Dunn House and the Outspan are knitting up a storm for the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela campaign. In addition to blankets, the industrious knitters also put their creative talents to work in making toys for the Tafta’s got Talent/ Pretty Things for Little Things competition.
According to Rahida Hassan from Outspan, the women at the Outspan love knitting, and last year donated 40 beanies, scarves and bags to the Buleng Qondi Pre-Primary School in Umbilo.
“Knitting is not only therapeutic, it keeps them busy with something they actually enjoy doing. They are so motivated and really enjoy doing things for charity,” she said.
Rahida said the group had however run out of wool which had put a damper on their activities. “Unfortunately wool is expensive, so we are appealing to the public to please assist with donations,” she said.
