Hoot if you care
I Care staff and volunteers took to the streets to encourage people not to give to street children.
I CARE hosted a street awareness campaign on Friday 27 March in Argyle Road, Bulwer Road, Greyville, Glenwood and Berea.
The aim of the campaign was not only to raise awareness but to encourage people not to give street children money or food as this only enables their stay on the streets and also subsidises their substance abuse habits.
Staff and volunteers from I Care and We are Durban held up placards and also prompted the public to hoot in support.
“We were met with amazing response of hooting and ‘thumbs up’ from the passing motorists. Thanks to the public for their amazing support as well as We are Durban for once again supporting us,” said Gail Elson from I Care.
I Care is an NGO that has been transforming the lives of street children for 13 years. Its programme is holistic and covers awareness, outreach, rehabilitation, housing/shelter, education and skills/job creation.
