Rotary supports the Red Cross

Rotary clubs donated money to help the Red Cross support refugees in and around Durban.

TWO Rotary clubs in Durban have stepped up to help the Red Cross in its plight to support refugees living in camps around Durban.

The Rotary Clubs of Durban Bay and Durban Thekwini each donated R2 000 to the Red Cross last week.

“The quickest way we could help was to give money out of our own pockets, as we haven't had the time to properly raise funds for this. We wish it could've been more,” said Laurence Rae from Rotary Club of Durban Thekwini.

Derick Naidoo from the Red Cross said the donation was very welcome.

“This money will really help us out. We have received a lot of donations in kind from the community, which has been great, but we have had to use money for transport, and have had to spend R50 000 so far, so the money is needed. The community, service clubs and companies have really shown human spirit during this time,” he said.
