High winds and monster swells headed for Durban

High winds and big waves are expected to lash Durban this afternoon.

BUCKLE up, winter weather is on its way! THE SA Weather Service has issued a warning of high winds and high seas which are expected to lash the beaches from this afternoon. The Weather Services says a low-pressure system is expected to reach KZN this afternoon and together with the full moon, high spring tides are expected.

Waves of over 5m are being predicted for tomorrow morning with swells picking up late this afternoon. Gale force winds are also expected, with gusts of up to 89km/h predicted.

According to Mike Anderson Reade of the KZN Sharks Board, shark nets are being removed in anticipation of the bad weather.

Snow is also being predicted for the Drakensberg.
