Community Chest honours donors
Community Chest held its annual Top Donor Awards breakfast last week.
THE Community Chest honoured its top donors at a breakfast event at Riverside Hotel last Wednesday.
“We thank our donors and appreciate their support for our vision. Their kind generosity and contribution is appreciated. Many families would go to bed without food or direction, without support from us, through our donor base,” said .Board chairman, Inbin Moodley,
“The Chest was established by Rotarians in 1932. I feel it was a noble thought and good idea, that one organisation is responsible for fundraising to support other NPOs. It started by raising 15 000 pounds in the first year, and supported 12 organisations. Over the past year, we have supported 87 member organisations, to the value of R9 million in grants. We received R784 000 worth of donor advised gifts and 950 donations in kind which were given to 21 organisations and schools. Without our donors, we can't exist. They help sustain the dream of why Community Chest was established,” he said.
Moodley said the Chest aimed to raise R9.5 million in the 2015/16 financial year, and had committed to support 84 member organisations.
“Our objective is to alleviate poverty. We depend on our donors, as we do not receive government funding. Our pledge is to continue to add value to our donors' investment, and keep the member organisations accountable in how they are using the money,” he said.
Each corporate donor and Trust was given a certificate of appreciation for their annual contribution.
