Upgrades give road a facelift

THE latest series of upgrade and maintenance projects carried out by the Florida Road UIP, with the support of the Municipality in some cases, has made a significant difference to the look of the road.

These small projects form part of a much larger plan that the UIP is working on with the municipality to create significant improvements to the road.

During April and May, many projects were undertaken. Servest assisted in clearing up one of the elderly resident's verge and repainted and planted the pot plants on the corner of Florida and Gordon Roads.

eThekwini Municipality repainted traffic lights, a pedestrian crossing button was replaced, the Florida and 10th street name signs were replaced and touching up of the white and yellow curbing at the Sandile Thusi and Florida intersection was done.

Thanks to Parks, bollards have been placed around the park at the intersection of Florida and Sandile Thusi Roads and the service lane off Innes Road was cleared fol-lowing a request from a local resident.

“DSW has installed a bin on the corner of 3rd and Florida due to the regular build up of litter. Should this continue, a request will be made for larger swing bins. DSW have also been busy pressure washing the pavements in the road. Between 295 and 303 Florida, a number of drain pipes became exposed due to damaged curbing and Roads were quick on the job and sorted it out,” said precinct manager, Jarrod Evans.

The UIP has been filling in pavements to ensure the area is easier to navigate and along with this and the other improvements, the UIP has been involved in making the area aesthetically pleasing.

“Both flower beds outside Spar have been cleaned up and replanted. We will be adding a bit of colour to the beds in the near future. A small tree bowl on the corner of 7th and Florida required some attention as did the five large tree bowls along the road. Rocks and Mondo grass will hopefully prove more appealing,” said Jarrod.
