Good arrests by security company
A security officer arrested a metered taxi driver who is allegedly linked to business burglaries in Morningside.

A BLUE Security armed response officer, in a joint operation with Metro Police on Monday, arrested a metered taxi driver who is allegedly linked to business burglaries in Morningside.
Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said the armed response officer had acted on intelligence that the driver of a metered taxi was using his vehicle to transport goods stolen during business burglaries.
“He spotted the vehicle at the market in Mansel Road at around 12.20am where it was busy offloading goods. He decided to investigate but as he approached the taxi it sped off. He chased the taxi into Umgeni Road where it managed to evade him but our officer was determined to take further action and communicated a description of the vehicle and his concerns to Metro Police officers,” he said.
Jackson said the police then asked their camera control centre staff to search for the taxi using their CCTV street surveillance camera technology.
“The vehicle was spotted outside the Butterworth Hotel and police and our officer arrived, arrested the driver and impounded the vehicle which it turned out was already linked to a business theft case,” he said.
A case was opened at the Durban Central Police Station and the owner of the taxi was notified.
Jackson added that armed response officers had effected a further five arrests over the past week.
“We arrested two alleged housebreakers who were caught red handed breaking down the front door of a property in Mimo Road in Morningside and a third suspect was arrested after attempting to steal a gate from a property in 11th Avenue. He dropped the gate and fled when a resident spotted him but our officer gave chase, arrested him and handed him over to the Berea SAPS,” he said.
Jackson said armed response officers had also been called out to businesses in central Durban where one suspect was arrested for trying to pay for goods with a counterfeit R100 note and another for allegedly attempting to steal R500 000.
“We responded to a business premises where a staff member had allegedly transferred R500 000 from the business's bank account to his personal account. He was arrested and handed over to Durban Point SAPS,” he said.
