Animals injured in highway crash
Three people were injured and scores of livestock when a truck overturned on the M7 near the N3 onramp.
THREE people have been hurt and scores of goats and sheep were injured after a truck carrying the livestock lost control and overturned on the M7 near the N2 south bound.
According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care, paramedics arrived to find the truck lying on its side whilst scores of cattle were walking around the busy highway. “We found three occupants of the truck had sustained moderate injuries and were stabilised before being transported to a nearby hospital,” he added.
Once all of the injured patients were on their way to hospital, Rescue Care paramedics, RTI Officers, SPCA officials and Metro Police assisted with the animals. Jamieson said many of the animals had suffered very severe injuries and had to be euthanazed by SPCA officials.
The on-ramp to the N2 South was closed whilst emergency personal worked to clear the scene.
Jamieson said it was unclear what caused the truck to overturn, however the necessary authorities were on scene and will be investigating further.
