Mom relieved as son finds place in school

A local mother is grateful that her son has been accepted into a local school.

A DESPERATE mother’s plea for a local school to accept her child has been heard by the Department of Education.

The mother’s story was featured in Berea Mail last week. She told of her almost year-long battle to find a new school for her son, as his previous school, Berea Primary, does not accommodate boys at the school from Grade 4.

In an email to Berea Mail, her ward councillor, Jethro Lefevre, and Mbali Ntuli of the Department of Education, the relieved mother said: “I would just like to thank you for listening to me and trying to assist with my situation. I am pleased to advise that my son has been accepted at Manor Gardens Primary. I truly appreciate all you did for me and my son.”

Ntuli said this remains one of the biggest issues in education and that she would place on the agenda a proposal for a more streamlined way for these matters to be processed before the end of the school year, that way ensuring any parents with outstanding matters can have them dealt with by the end of the year and know their children have a place in a school the following year.
