Parents warned to be vigilant

Blue Security has warned parents to be vigilant, following a hijacking outside a school last week.

BLUE Security has warned parents to be vigilant when transporting children to school after a woman was hijacked outside a local school on Friday.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a woman who runs a lift club at a school in Seaview was hijacked after she arrived to drop children at the school at 7.49am.

“Hijackers fled in her vehicle which had a puncture, so they eventually abandoned it in Monument Road where the police later recovered it and handed it back to the owner. No injuries were reported,” he said.

Jackson urged residents to be vigilant when dropping off and fetching children from school as criminals preyed on victims who were distracted on the road.

“When driving to and from the school if you sense that you are being followed rather take a drive to the nearest police station than take a chance as criminals stake out the area and their victims before striking,” he said.

Jackson said before pulling up outside the school parents must ensure that there are no suspicious individuals loitering in the vicinity where they need to stop.

“If you do notice anything that makes you uneasy report it to the school’s security guard or management immediately,” said Jackson.

Jackson advised parents not to leave vehicles unlocked or any valuables in view when parking outside the school.

“Criminals just need a few minutes to smash a window and grab a cellphone or laptop that is in view so rather take your valuables with you to the gate,” he said.

Jackson added that it would also be more difficult to succeed with an insurance claim if valuables were left lying in plain sight in vehicles.
