85 years for charity

Community Chest's 85 year milestone was recognised by the Parks Department.

A carpet bed was created at Jameson Park recently, to commemorate Community Chest’s 85th anniversary.

Staff were proud of the milestone, and the Parks Department’s creation to honour the Chest.

The Ubuntu Community Chest is a vehicle for people who care about their community, to get involved with helping their communities in practical ways.

The Community Chest supports more than 60 welfare and development organisations working in the fields of child and youth care support services, early childhood development, rehabilitation, crime prevention, general child and family welfare, elderly care, care of the homeless, care of the mentally handicapped, care for the disabled, health care support services and community development projects.

The Chest achieves its mission by working in partnership raising funds from the corporate sector. By giving to the Community Chest, companies are able to meet their Corporate Social Investment criteria and improve their BEE rating with the peace of mind that their investment is wisely used.

The Chest raises funds from charitable trusts, which can meet their Social Investment Criteria. Investors have the assurance that their investment is well-spent.

The Chest also works with companies to implement employee giving programmes. Known as SHARE, Work-Place-Giving or Give-As-You Earn, these schemes improve company morale and create a company ethos that inspires and motivates employees.

The Chest also does a lot of fundraising, from individuals and through appeals and special events.
Ubuntu Community Chest works with teams on the ground assisting local NPOs with capacity building training, assisting volunteers by placing them with organisations who they can assist and by distributing donations-in-kind.
