CHOC thanks Jewish union

The Union of Jewish Women were presented with a certificate of appreciation from CHOC.

CHOC KZN's Agie Govender visited the Union of Jewish Women's Durban branch on Monday to thank them for their contribution to the organisation.

The women recently hung hearts on the tree at the Durban Holocaust Centre on International Childhood Cancer Day, and donated R3 000 to CHOC.

Speaking at the meeting, Agie said she found it very difficult to sugar coat the issue of childhood cancer.

“I can't wrap the issue in a pink ribbon and make it easy and light, childhood cancer is not pretty. It is harsh on the body, and chemotherapy kills everything, and initiates growth again. Children get very sick and are out of school for a maximum of up to three years. We exist to help support these children with cancer, and the R3 000 raised by the group will help to provide meals at CHOC house,” she said.

Agie said CHOC provides a bed and meals for 24 people, and this wouldn't be possible without support from groups and people like the Union of Jewish Women.

She presented chairperson Bev Levy with a certificate of appreciation for their contribution.
