Elderly step out in safety

Councillor Martin Meyer is pleased the pavement in Rapson Road is being revamped.

THE elderly residents at Benson Place retirement home will soon be able to walk safely on the pavement outside in Rapson Road.

The pavement is currently being revamped and will be ready for foot traffic soon.

According to ward councillor Martin Meyer, he held a meeting in January at Benson Place where various issues were discussed, and the issue of the pavement was one which he has been happy to help with.

“The residents were finding it difficult to get to the shop or bus stop as the pavement was uneven, and two residents had fallen and been injured,” he said.

He contacted Roads and Engineering and was told the department would look into budgeting for the project, and was pleased to hear it would be started at the end of February.

“I'm very grateful for this, as it will enable the residents to still be active members of the community,” he said.
