Fourteen injured in weekend accidents
The police are investigating the cause of two accidents in Durban this weekend.
FOURTEEN people were injured in two separate accidents at the weekend.
According to Garrith Jamieson from Rescue Care, eight people were injured, two seriously so, after a taxi and a car collided at the intersection of Anton Lembede (Smith) Street and Brook Street in Durban on Saturday evening at around 7pm.
“Paramedics arrived to find chaos as people were looting the injured. Metro Police and SAPS quickly brought the situation under control and paramedics moved in to treat the injured. All patients were stabilised on scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for further care,” he said.
Jamieson said in another accident on Sunday, six people were injured, including a baby, after three vehicles collided on the M4 north bound near Edwin Swales just after 9pm.
“Rescue Care paramedics and paramedics from the Durban University of Technology arrived to find that three vehicles had collided before one vehicle with a family of three, including a baby, had overturned coming to rest on its roof. Two people were severely entrapped in the wreckage. Paramedics used hydraulic equipment to free them. Once all of the injured had been extricated and stabilised on scene they were transported to hospital,” said Jamieson.
He said the busy freeway was closed while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
“Authorities were on scene at both accidents, and will be investigating further,” he said.
