A MEETING of The Community of Safe Schools takes place on 7 April in the Robert Mason Hall at Penzance Primary School, 10 Bartle Road, at 2.30pm for 3pm.
The meeting will be held in response to a need to have schools talking to each other about safety in schools.
“The National Safety Schools Framework is a government solution, however, unless schools communicate with each other, the effects of the framework will be localised rather than across the whole of the Umbilo SAPS Sector 1 and 2 areas,” said John Legemaate, chairman of the Safe Schools Committee.
The National Safety Schools Framework (NSSF) provides a framework for addressing school safety within the context of the broader community, and within the prevailing legislative and policy context. The NSSF manual contains practical tools and templates that schools can administer in order to including identifying the safety and violence risks at the schools, measuring staff and learner experiences of crime and violence at school, developing a sound action plan which integrates data gathered from learners and staff and measuring and evaluating the impact of the action plan.
People who are urged to attend are senior members of staff, preferably in charge of the safety and security portfolio from each of the primary, pre-primary and high schools, in the area bordered by Ridge Road, Umbilo Road, the M7 and Berea Road.
Parking in Penzance Road. There will be car guards on duty.
RSVP to security@penzance.co.za or contact Mrs Downham at reception on 031 205 2271.
