Have a ‘frog friendly’ garden
Frogs are the world’s most threatened vertebrates largely because of habitat destruction, yet they play a critical role in the ecology of our gardens.

THE Botanical Society of South Africa KZN Coastal Branch will host an illustrated talk by Dr Jeanne Tarrant and Anno Torr entitled Gardening for Frogs: How to help the world’s most threatened vertebrates on Monday 23 May at Durban Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre, at 6pm.
Frogs are the world’s most threatened vertebrates largely because of habitat destruction. Yet, amphibians are crucial in the food-chain through their role as both predator and prey – they consume vast numbers of insects (including pests and disease vectors such as mosquitoes) and provide food to a wide range of animals.
They thus play a critical role in the ecology of our gardens.
Join Dr Jeanne Tarrant of the Endangered Wildlife Trust and Anno Torr from The Indigenous Gardener online magazine to find out why you should care about frogs, and how to garden to ensure you provide the perfect habitat for these fascinating creatures.
Entrance, including refreshments, is R40 for members of BotSoc and the Friends of Durban Botanic Gardens, R60 for visitors and R30 for students with cards.
Pay at the door. Proceeds to go to BotSoc branch projects.
No need to book. For enquiries, contact botsoc-kzn@mweb.co.za, 031 201 5111 or 071 869 3693.
