THE Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day was an exciting day for the five matric girls from Embizweni High School in Umlazi who not only enjoyed a day out of the classroom, but an opportunity to enter the corporate world when they spent the morning at the Durban Public Protector’s offices in the CBD.
Nomfundo Khawula shared her excitement with Berea Mail, “I feel so happy I could burst. I always wanted a career in the business world and have never been in a boardroom before. I feel so amazing, like this is where I should be, it’s where I want to return when I’m older. And we are going to have a boardroom breakfast!”
Thembelihle Busane was also excited to be at the Public Protector’s Offices. “Its great to learn about the public protector and what work they do and what careers are in this field,” she added.
Thembelihle Ndlovu, an outreach officer at The Public Protector offices said they had been involved in the Take a Girl Child to Work programme for the past four years. “Cel C pairs us with a school and we invite them to our offices to get a feel of the work we do. We are glad to expose our company and the important work we do to these young girls as possible career paths. They have a nice morning planned with breakfast in the boardroom and our office head, Advocate Mlandeli Nkosi will speak to the young ladies before we take them on a tour of our offices and have a question and answer session after,” she said.
Ndlovu encouraged more schools to register with the Cell C annual programme to get an opportunity to pair with them and other companies.
