Founders Day fun as DHS celebrate 150 years

Hundreds of DHS Old Boys gathered at the school over the weekend to celebrate the school's 150 birthday and Founders Day this weekend.

DURBAN High School celebrated their 150th birthday and Founder’s Day at the weekend 2 to 4 June in fine style.

The Old Boys Golf Day on Thursday, was the first of the celebratory events. On Friday DHS hosted a 150th Old Boys assembly, which thanked Old Boys for supporting the school over the years, as well as the 150th banquet dinner in the evening which saw around 750 Old Boys from all over the world in attendance at Greyville Convention Centre.

Saturday, 4 June was the much anticipated 150th Founders Day event, which was a complete success with numerous crowds of supporters filling the stands and surrounding the sports field where rugby games between DHS and Maritzburg College were played. Hockey games against Maritzburg College were also played at Riverside Sports Complex.

Don Speirs, Class of 1971 Old Boy and current Trustee of the DHS Foundation Trust, was the Guest of Honour on the day. After the 1st XV rugby game, DHS hosted all guests at a sundowner cocktail function which was followed by the “Rocking Through the Decades” music concert in the DC Thompson School Hall and was, overall, a wonderful day full of entertainment and camaraderie.

Three generations of DHS Old Boys from the Berea, Anthony, Michael and and Warwick Webber also celebrated Founders Day together. Warwick Webber matriculated in the Class of 1945.
