A BEREA policeman escaped unharmed after a shooting incident while leaving the station early on Tuesday morning.
According to Captain PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, a Constable stationed at Berea SAPS was walking up the stairs leading to the back of the station on Halford Road where the police vehicle he was going to use was parked when the incident occurred. “As the constable got onto the road he noticed there was something happening in a Toyota Fortuner that was parked further down the road. As he approached the vehicle with caution, two men got off the vehicle and one fired at the constable who took cover and fired back,” explained Naidoo.
The suspects got into a silver Corolla with another suspect and drove off. “No damages and no injuries were sustained in the incident. No details of the vehicle was obtained because it happened so fast,” added Naidoo.
The constable opened a case of attempted murder and the owner of the Fortuner opened a case of attempted theft of a motor vehicle. No arrests have been made as yet.
