Point joins hands with security industry to stomp out crime

Point police create visibility with a motorcade throughout the crime hot spots in the area.

POINT police took an important step towards creating a crime free environment with a joint initiative to build a relationship with security companies in the area.

Launched with a vehicle a motorcade of the Point precinct’s hot spots, Points SAPS vehicles were joined by Metro Police, Enforce, Blue Security and Vusa Isizwe Security vehicles who did a sweep of the area.

Point SAPS, communications officer, Captain BJ Simelane said the initiative hoped to strengthen the relationship police have with security companies working in the area. “We hope to have security companies work hand in hand with police to fight crime.

“The convoy started at Point station and worked its way through the Point area to show visibility and create a deterrent to criminals,” Simelane added.

Martin Zondi, assistant operations manager at Vusa Isizwe Security was pleased to participate in the initiative. “It’s good for criminalw to see security and police come together. The power of law enforcement would really help because with most cases, security don’t have the power to arrest and having the police with us would stop criminals and periodically change the mindsets for people to respect security,” he added.
