A TOTAL of 22 honours awards for academics were presented to top academics at the annual Glenwood High School senior speech day and prizegiving.
The guest speaker for the evening was Mr Denis Goldberg, a South African social campaigner who was active in the struggle against apartheid and was imprisoned along with other key members of the anti-apartheid movement.
The top academic achievers were Matthew de Klerk, Dux of the school, Dux Proxime Accessit was Vigneshwara Naiker and third in Grade 12 was Timothy Hardman.
The Varsity College Bursary (Glenwood Old Boys’ Club Award) was awarded to Lindelwe Cele and the Max Sandler Memorial Goodfellowship Bursary was awarded to Hylton Marais.
A special award for Leadership Excellence (Grant Robertson Award) went to Jordan Grobbelaar, The Jes Foord Trophy for community service went to Kishen Mudaly,
The Perseverance Award (Warren Clewlow Award) went to Travis Nightingale, the Service Award (Simon Mc Chesney Memorial) went to Joshua Hales, the Boarder Head Prefect Award (Don Chase Memorial Award) went to Austin Brummer, the RCL Chairman Award (The Headmaster’s Trophy) went to Jonathan Verrall, The Head Prefect Award (Owen Ritson Memorial Prize) went to Jordan Grobbelaar and the Head Prefect’s Leadership Award was awarded to Isaiah Naidoo.
Almost 200 awards were handed out at the annual Glenwood High School Sports and Cultural Awards, showing why Glenwood sporting boys and coaches are regarded as some of the best in the country.
The guest speaker for the event was Paralympic cyclist, Dane Wilson (Glenwood old boy, 2009), and the Glenwood High School Sportsman of the Year trophy was awarded to Dylan Cronje.
