BULWER residents who attended last week’s Bulwer Safety and Urban Regenation Forum meeting were introduced to a new safety app by members of the SA Community Crime Watch.
Tiaan Steenkamp explained how the new app, Panic Button could easily be downloaded onto a smart or android phone. Adriaan Bekker, also from SA Community Crime Watch, said there was a R39 per month fee. He said the app could play a vital role in a life-threatening situation as once a person pressed the panic button app on their phone, it immediately alerted the control centre . Someone from the control centre would phone and assist and monitor the situation the person found themselves it. The app was strictly for life or death situations. Bekker said the app had over 500 000 people on line. One someone sent out an alert, everyone who was on line, no matter where you were in South Africa, there would be someone available to assist.
Metro Police Captain Sisibo also addressed those at the meeting and share information about a brothel at 276 Clark Road that had been raided and closed down by police. He mentioned there were others in the area that had been raided and closed down as well. He said police were aware of and monitoring other crime hot-spots.
Jeni Wells, assistant chairperson, reminded the residents that the last meeting for this year will be held on Thursday, 1 December at Glenwood Community Church at 6.30pm. She also stressed the importance of reporting crime and crime related events on the Bulwer WhatsApp group.
