Point SAPS support 16 Days of Activism
POINT police officers acknowledged 16 Days of Activism Against Abuse of Women and Children last Wednesday at the China Mall on Gillespie Street.
According to Captain BJ Simelane, communications officer at Point SAPS, numerous pamphlets explaining domestic violence, how to break the cycle of power and control, how to heal and a prayer for victims of domestic violence were distributed to the community at the shopping centre.
“People were informed and educated on the procedure to follow when abused and parents were given a guide on how to protect children from sexual abuse,” he said.
Be wary of selling online
Captain Simelane encouraged the public to be wary and take all safety measures when selling items online.
“The community must be cautious with regard to selling online as we have had many cases opened where complainants come to us reporting thefts after trying to sell their items online.
“One complainant tried to sell his Samsung S7 cellphone via an online selling site and when the man received a call about the phone and wanted to see it, the buyer, a foreigner whom he met and he showed the phone to, took the complainant’s cellphone and never returned with his cellphone,” he explained.
Simelane said it was best to make deals in a safe public place.
