Bursary recipients empowered
The Minister also spent time with some graduates and beneficiaries to celebrate their achievements, discuss and share tips on how to overcome challenges.
MINISTER of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula met with some of the recipients of her department’s bursary programme on Monday in Durban. The programme was launched four years ago. Every year, the Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans in partnership with SASSETA, identify financially needy and academically deserving South African Grade 12 learners and offer them funding for post-matric studies.
Minister Mapisa-Nqakula also spent time with some graduates and beneficiaries of the bursary programme to celebrate their achievements, discuss and share tips on how to overcome challenges of transition from high school to institutions of higher learning.
“Young people are confronted with a variety of challenges that threaten their abilities to fully realise their potential. Therefore, we would like them to share their stories and challenges they face growing up. Hopefully, we’ll provide them with the necessary guidance they need to prepare for post-matric studies as well as help them navigate life successfully,” said Minister Mapisa-Nqakula.
Minister Mapisa-Nqakula was joined by representatives from SASSETA and the SANDF Education Trust.
