Public taught CPR

Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital in collaboration with Netcare Parklands Hospital and Netcare 911 offered free CPR and choking training at the Pavilion Shopping Centre this month.

NETCARE hosted the ‘Save a life’ project, a community initiative, recently, since research has shown that during the Easter period families flock to restaurants, malls and the beaches and many choking and drowning cases are reported.

The importance of CPR and choking (Heimlich Manoeuvre) training cannot be stressed and therefore Netcare St Augustine’s Hospital in collaboration with Netcare Parklands Hospital and Netcare 911 offered free CPR and choking training at the Pavilion Shopping Centre. This was a KZN project that successfully reached and trained shoppers, young and old, across KZN.

“The aim was to increase the awareness and importance of early CPR, as three recent cases in the Durban area proved the need. In all three cases, the patients’ hearts stopped and the people who witnessed the incident started CPR immediately. All three victims lived to walk out of hospital,” said Netcare media liaison, Chris Botha.

Shoppers were very happy with the initiative and many came through and thanked the team for the selfless act of giving up their time to offer free training to the people.
